WATERWAY AND PORT SECURITY

This article discusses aspects of national security concerns relevant to waterways and port security. The specific policy and other related requirements necessary to preserve and protect U.S. national coastal maritime interests as the focal points of threats from criminal, terrorists, and our foreign adversaries are listed and outlined. The U.S. Coast Guard is uniquely positioned to fulfill an instrumental role in safeguarding U.S. national interests and will continue to develop and expand its responsibility as the lead federal agency for port security at all Marine Transportation System facilities and waterways. Those Coast Guard divisions and offices charged with maritime national security responsibilities and their current and future efforts are described.
