THE DEVELOPMENT OF AN AUTOMATIC TRAIN REGULATOR FOR OPTIMISATION OF TRAIN DWELL TIME AND DISPATCH FREQUENCY

This paper outlines the development of a software simulation package called the Automatic Train Regulator (ATR), which is used to optimize the dwell time and dispatch frequency of an automated railroad system under both steady state and disturbed conditions. Simulations were conducted to assess the performance of public transit systems both with and without automatic train regulation. The ATR system is a highly versatile and totally self-contained software program that can be used by rail transit operators and planners to achieve an elevated level of efficiency in both planning and operation through soft computing knowledge.
