MATERIALS DATA HANDLING SYSTEMS (QUALITY ASSURANCE SYSTEMS AND THEIR DEVELOPMENT)
Materials data handling systems are a means to an end result and not the end in itself. Rather, materials data, its processing and manipulation is a part of a total approach to the larger and more sifnificant quality assurance task for a modern transportation department. This paper discusses the role of quality assurance systems in providing a rational, real time decision making process for quality assurance. Discussed are some of the prerequisites for establishing quality assurance systems as well as the data input and handling function. Specific examples are provided for a total quality assurance system.
