GENERAL PUBLIC BEHAVIOR AND ATTITUDES, PART I: REGARDING VACATION AND BUSINESS TRAVEL

The findings are presented regarding the public attitudes relating to vacation, weekend and business travel. Thus in spite of the energy-related problems experienced by the public, almost half the people considered say they plan to travel about the same number of miles in 1975 as they did in the previous year. For most people who took a vacation in 1974, is was a single trip. One or 2 weeks is the usual duration for 1975 vacation trips. Most persons took their longest vacation trip during the summer months and plan to do so again in 1975. Automobiles were the main type of transportation used on 1974 vacation trips. Travel within the U.S. was the norm for most 1974 vacation trips; most 1975 trips will also be within this country. 1975 travellers will visit one or two specific locations. The study found that the energy situation has not affected weekend trip (made almost entirely in personal vehicles) plans for 1975. The study also found that overnight business trips among chief wage earners are not common and that those who do travel, use their own cars.
