URBAN TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS BASED ON ULTRA-SMALL ELECTRIC VEHICLES
This paper proposes an ultra-small electric vehicle that is optimally suited to urban lifestyles and is intended to meet demands for traffic environment improvement. The superiority of this ultra-small EV over conventional passenger cars is described with respect to energy consumption, CO2 emissions and required parking space. Car-sharing systems are proposed as effective approaches to gaining popular acceptance of ultra-small electric vehicles as a means of personal mobility tailored to everyday urban life. Nissan is proposing systems which incorporate ITS technologies and are designed to meet local community needs, and aims to implement them on the basis of field trial results.
