COMPREHENSIVE APPROACH TO IMPLEMENTING RURAL AREA SMALL SCALE TELEMATICS SOLUTIONS
The aim of the study was to ascertain the possibilIties of using transport telematlcs in the South-eastern region of Finland, which is a rural area with a relatively low traffic volume. Traffic problems were identified and specific small scale telematics solutions developed to solve them. The impacts of these solutions were estimated and used in the decision making process to select appropriate solutions. This comprehensive approach offers a holistic view of where to use telematics in rural areas. Recommendations are made as to which cases may be most attractive for implementation. The results of this study can be used to solve similar problems in other low traffic rural areas. For the covering abstract see IRRD E102946.
