A TRAIN OPERATION CONTROL SYSTEM FOR THE NEXT GENERATION : IROS AND ATOS
This paper describes two train operation control systems for both Shinkansens and conventional rail lines in Japan. The systems are the Integrated Railway Operation System (IROS) and the Autonomous Decentralised Transport Operation Control System (ATOS). The systems feature a comprehensive database, modernized operating and management plans, and application to ultra high density lines. The paper also describes a new signaling technology that applies information technology and which was initiated for the first time in Japan with ATOS.
