ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL HITS THE ROAD
This article describes how a radar-based adaptive cruise control (ACC) system will soon be available on the new Mercedes S-Class automobile. The radar sensor, located in the car's grille, will monitor for close spacing. The device will automatically back off the gas and apply limited braking, if necessary. Although the price tag for this new system will initially be hefty, industry analysts predict that in another eight years, ACC will be common in even the smallest of vehicles.
