LAND VEHICLE NAVIGATION : A WORLDWIDE PERSPECTIVE
This paper takes a global overview of technical developments in vehicular navigation. From this vantage point, the author gives his perception of some of the critical issues involved in the major shakeout and consolidation which he expects to occur during the next one or two decades, and he speculates on the outcome. (Note: This article was originally published in the Journal of Navigation, v. 44 (1991); this version includes comments by Christopher Queree which suggest that perhaps French's predictions in 1991 for the next 20 years appear to be overly optimistic.
