ON EXPONENTIAL DENSITIES AND URBAN FORM
Distinctive features of exponential density are discussed with special reference to its application for cities with streets laid out on Manhattan or rectangular grid patterns. The case is considered for a city modeled on the x-y plane, R square, with the city center at the origin. The economic meaning of various mathematical assuptions are explained. Good visual fits for data have been obtained using this Manhattan model.
