CURRENT AND POTENTIAL MILITARY TRANSPORTATION APPLICATIONS OF EVOLVING SATELLITE-BASED COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY
This paper outlines the progress made by the U.S. military transportation and security community toward developing improved intransit visibility and the resulting safety and security measures for the commercial movement of conventional ammunitions, weapons and related support equipment. It briefly reviews the background into the use of satellite communications and tracking capabilities. This is followed by a discussion of transportation safety and security. The remainder of the paper describes international transportation information tracking.
