APPLICATIONS OF DYNAMIC ASSIGNMENT IN THE NETHERLANDS USING THE INTEGRATION MODEL
The INTEGRATION traffic simulation model was developed to analyze a number of specialized problems related to the operation and optimization of integrated freeway arterial traffic networks, taking into account traffic control and route guidance systems. INTEGRATION analyzes traffic flows in terms of vehicles as individual entities. It permits a traffic flow representation which is common to all networks and also permits a continuous dynamic queuing based traffic assignment. The strength of the model is that it combines simulation and dynamic assignment. This paper reports on the results of applications of the INTEGRATION model in six studies. The difficulties that were encountered, the lessons learned, and the quality of the different model components are reported.
