CLASS TROUBLES TAKE THEIR TOLL ON CALTRANS BRIDGE : VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION LIES AT THE HEART OF CALTRANS'S PROBLEMS ON THE CARQUINEZ BRIDGE
This article discusses the problems that were experienced during the first installation of electronic toll collection equipment on the Carquinez Bridge in the San Francisco Bay Area. The installation involved not only electronic tolling, but also automatic vehicle classification and a violation detection system. It was these associated systems that failed to meet the accuracy standards required.
