TRAVINFO, ENLIGHTENING MOTORISTS IN SAN FRANCISCO'S BAY AREA
This article describes TravInfo, an Intelligent Transportation Systems ( TSI) operational field test designed to develop an Advanced Traveler Information System (ATIS) for the San Francisco Bay Area. The goal of TravInfo is the development and operation of a Traveler Information Center (TIC) which collects information related to all modes of travel in the Bay Area. This information is then distributed through a variety of mechanisms, including a Traveler's Advisory Telephone System (TATS) which will provide callers with information on real-time traffic conditions and direct connections to local transit and rideshare agencies. The article also discusses the public-private partnership concept which is critical to the success of TravInfo.
