TAKING CONTROL : HIGHWAY OPERATORS HAVE AN INCREASING ARMOURY OF HIGH TECHNOLOGY MANAGEMENT TOOLS AT THEIR DISPOSAL, ASSISTING WITH EVERYTHING FROM LAW ENFORCEMENT TO CONGESTION MANAGEMENT
This paper describes different types of high technology traffic management tools. Examples include: a system that provides traffic surveillance and issue citations, a system that gives emergency vehicle priority, a system that detects incidents automatically and controls variable message signs, and a system that predicts the traffic response to permanent changes in traffic signal timings.
