The mathematical basis for a computer program for generating ship hull forms using interactive graphics is presented. The program can calculate the data (boundary conditions) necessary to generate and display a body plan. The control curves produced are a section area, load waterline, main deck at edge, flat of bottom, keel rise, sheer, and slopes for the body plan section. The mathematical development of the control curves are presented. Computer programming considerations are given followed by a summary and conclusion. Two appendices are included. Appendix A shows each graphics display and the resulting display after the indicated light pen pick. Appendix B describes some recent work aimed at giving more control of the shape of curves.
