ANALYSIS OF HUMAN INVOLVEMENT IN AUTOMATED DRIVING
This paper presents a framework for evaluating human factor concerns for automated vehicle control for different mixes of Automated Highway Systems (AHS) attributes. For each mix of attributes, the authors look at the basic driving tasks of detection, recognition, situation analysis, decision making, and control response. An analytical process is then presented to determine the responsibilities of the human driver, vehicle, and AHS infrastructure for these driving tasks. The technical requirements of each responsible party are then discussed and illustrated through several case studies.
