SHORE FACILITIES FOR RECEPTION AND TREATMENT OF CARGO RESIDUES DIRTY BALLAST WATER FROM OIL AND/OR CHEMICAL TANKERS, OF OILY BILGE WATERS FROM ALL SHIPS, AS WELL AS FOR GAS FREEING OF TANKERS
Technical solutions for effective limitation of the discharge into the sea of dangerous products need to operate directly on the ship or in the harbours. Solutions related to ship alterations are either uneconomical or difficult to fulfill. Therefore, the solution recommended in this report is the installation of shore facilities for the reception and treatment of ballast and washing waters and of bilge residues from oil tankers and other ships. This report contains an assessment of parameters for the design of a shore facility. Unit operations performed in the process of reception and treatment of dirty water and in the process of cargo tanks gas-freeing are discussed. A model of a shore facility is described.
