BUILDING BERTH WELDING DEVELOPMENT IN THE NETHERLANDS

The enclosed welding process for welding vertical seams in one layer, although requiring special apparatus, provides an important saving of time and produces welds of excellent quality. Some impact value data are given and compared with the requirements of the Classification Societies. The application of ceramic backing materials for one-sided welding of root runs with covered electrodes or wires increases the welding speed and reduces costs. In this paper some details of the equipment and methods are examined and brief descriptions are given of three types of machines which will be coming onto the market.
