RESEARCH ISSUES REGARDING SOCIETAL CHANGE AND TRANSPORT: AN UPDATE. IN: SOCIAL CHANGE AND SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT
The paper reviews previous findings that identified workplace related changes as the most promising area for joint research for United States and Europe. Continued research confirms that the effects of information and telecommunications technology (ICT) have become increasingly evident. While the access to Internet has increased manyfold, restructuring of major industry sectors continues unabated, and the interconnectedness of the global space economy continues to increase. The nature of work and workplace is being redefined by the great spatial and temporal flexibility of the new world which provides a rich area for comparative research.
