POTENTIAL BENEFITS OF TELEMATIC APPLICATIONS FOR ELDERLY OR DISABLED USERS OF PUBLIC TRANSPORT: EXAMPLE WITH A HAND HELD TERMINAL
This paper describes the evaluation of a hand-held terminal which gives public transport users information about the waiting time at preprogrammed bus stops. Seven subjects participated in the study, all being bus users between 64 and 81 years old. Some difficulties recorded included confusion in operating the device; too much information on the screen; difficulty in locating information in the system; and problems in understanding the information presented. Recommendations for improvement are suggested in each case.
