SPACE HUNTING
Cutting town centre congestion is a key target in the UK government's 10 Year Plan for transport. Proposed solutions include cutting free parking in town centres, park and ride schemes, increased use of public transport and congestion charging. Varitext have developed a turnkey system aimed at reducing congestion caused by drivers looking for a parking space. The Parktext system is a car park occupancy monitoring network. The system comprises an intelligent instation with graphical user interface software linked to a network of car park outstations and variable message signs. The software of the system is discussed. Use of the system in York is described.
