SERVICE PLANNING STRATEGIES: THE EXAMPLE OF THE PASSENGER TRANSPORT DEPARTMENT OF THE SWISS FEDERAL RAILWAYS (CFF/SBB)
Strategies in the Passenger Transport Department of the Swiss Federal Railways (CFF/SBB) are made for 5-20 years ahead. The corporate aims of the CFF/SBB are outlined. The principles and procedures applied to CFF/SBB's strategic planning are described: no 'zero-based' approach, building on existing foundations, stage-by-stage implementation, financially viable modules, adopting a systematic approach, and integrated product planning. An overview is given of strategic service planning the CFF/SBB Passenger Department. Methods for working out the strategic service Rail 2000 concept and the market potential and product strategies are discussed. The optimisation of the system for different long-haul alternatives is outlined. For the covering abstract see ITRD E117504.
