ROUTE ACCESS ASSESSMENT FOR RESTRICTED ACCESS VEHICLES

The Route Access Assessment for Restricted Access Vehicles document has been under development for some time. Before issuing a permit for these vehicles to operate on a Council road, Transport SA requires that Council first grant a clearance for the RAV operation on the road. Following the issue of a clearance from Council, if the route has been requested for 'first time use', an assessment of the route to ensure that the road can support the safe operation of the particular vehicle is undertaken. The document is primarily for Local Council, Transport SA and their assessors as a tool in the decision making process in identifying and outlining the various factors that need consideration for approval for RAV operation to be granted. Application of the document is a means of showing that due diligence and consistency has been exercised in the granting of the approval and that in the event of an incident, that the route had been properly assessed regarding safety, amenity and environmental issues.
