The prime purpose of rest areas is to provide facilities for the safety and convenience of highway travellers. It is considered important to have a sufficient number of rest areas to provide safe and appropriately spaced stopping places to break long trips. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the factors affecting spacing and location so as to determine the best locations for these areas. /RTAC/
