OFFERING SUPPORT : INNOVATIVE HIGHWAY EMBANKMENT SYSTEM SAVES TIME AND MONEY IN IOWA, TEXAS
This article discusses the use of the Geopier soil reinforcement system in a number of projects around the country. Geopier Rammed Aggregate Piers look like underground shafts of aggregate. They reinforce surrounding soft soils, and are custom-designed to site conditions and load-bearing capacity. In Marshall County near LeGrand, Iowa, a job that would have required excavating 60,000 cubic meters and bringing back aggregate and backfill to build embankments, was done instead using Geopier soil reinforcement system to strengthen the existing soil. On part of a Houston tollway, Geopier soil reinforcement was used to support two mechanically stabilized earthwall (MSE) embankments that were built over soft soils. The article also relates how the Geopier system was applied to strengthen the existing soil, reduce settlement, and increase the safety for slope stability in a project which involved building a bridge over a railroad in Missouri City, Texas.
