INTERACTIVE TRAINING TOOL HITS MARKS AT SEA-TAC
In order to improve training without sacrificing excessive manpower time, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport implemented a new interactive employee training (IET) system in 2001. The IET was initially developed by the American Association of Airport Executives, and then customized for the airport. Customized courses were developed for on-airport driver training and the airport's security identification display area. A customer service course also is in development. To take the courses, employees sit at a computer and view video segments. Using a touch-screen monitor, employees answer questions after each segment that reinforce the training messages. If an employee answers incorrectly, the system re-runs the video section containing the correct answer. Course completion information is electronically logged through a tracking feature in the system. The system has received positive feedback from both management and employees, and other airports are implementing similar systems.
