A SHORT COURSE IN FOUNDATION ENGINEERING
This book is based on lectures given on courses on foundation engineering held at the University of Surrey. It covers the principle of effective stress; the nature and measurement of shear strength; the computation of elastic settlements, bearing capacity, consolidation settlements; the estimation of settlements on granular materials; the design of piled foundations. To facilitate the extraction and use of information, data are concentrated in tables, charts and design curves. The text is illustrated with many line drawings and worked examples. /TRRL/
