IT'S ABOUT LIFESTYLE AND GROWTH : AMERICA'S CONGESTION CRISIS PART III - FREEDOM TO MOVE
This article, the third in a series on congestion, compares the transportation challenges of todayhomeland security, economic productivity, safety and traffic congestion-with those of fifty years ago when President Eisenhower signed the Federal Aid Highway Act. It examines lifestyle issueshousing, growth, and planningas it influences congestion. It also looks at the pros and cons of the smart growth approach, and uses the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Project, a 7.5-mile corridor project that will connect Virginia, Maryland, and the District of Columbia, as a template for the congestion challenge. This article also includes responses from a dozen associations on what they would like to see in TEA-3.
