RAISING THE BARRIER
Highway Care and Dutch manufacturer Laura Metaal Eygelshoven BV have developed two types of temporary steel barrier for the UK market. The two systems are BarrierGuard 800 and BarrierGuard 500, which are 800 and 500 mm high respectively. Both systems consist of single elements of galvanised 6-m long barrier sections with a unique male or female QuickMount connector at one end and a bolted joint at the other. Two elements are bolted together in the factory to form 12-m long sections with male and female connector ends. The barrier can be easily installed using a three-man team. The barrier face has a smooth profile. The BarrierGuard 800 is anchored at the ends of the ramped terminal sections and by an inner anchor shoe. The BarrierGuard 500 is only anchored at each end of each run using externally placed chemical anchor bolts on steel plates. BarrierGuard 800 has been approved by the Highways Agency for use on motorways and trunk roads.
