TRENDS IN FUTURE AUTOMOTIVE GLAZING
Advanced automotive glazing can contribute to the safety, security and comfort of a car. The safety and security benefits of laminated side glazing and laminated windscreens include protection against theft and a reduction in the risk of ejection during an accident. Laminated glazing also improves thermal and acoustic comfort by reducing UV and solar radiation when combined with an infrared coating. The use of anti-reflective coatings, e.g. SGS Reflexcontrol by Securit Saint Cobain, can reduce the reflection of the dashboard onto the glass. Hydrophobic coatings and heatable glass can improve visibility during rain and icy conditions. Thermal comfort in a car can be achieved by two types of glazing: heat absorption or heat reflection. Light transmission adjustable glass (electrochromic glass) has been developed, enabling the darkness of the glass to be controlled as desired.
