GRANITE ROCKS AND THEIR WEATHERING
LES ROCHES GRANITIQUES ET LEUR ALTERATION
This geological discussion of granitic rocks covers the problems of classification and localization of the formations, as well as gives an account of the fracturing and weathering of the granitic rock masses. The geotechnical aspects of this research are confined to earthmoving, with special reference to problems connected with the extraction and re-utilization of materials in relation to their geotechnical properties. Extraction by means of seismic refraction were improved by adopting the calibration of seismic velocities and methods of interpretation to the context of the weathering of granites. The geotechnical properties of arenaceous granite were analyzed and related in a geological context in order to achieve a better prediction at the investigative stage. The arenaceous granite was placed in the context of a geotechnical classification of soils in order to determine how they could be re-utilized as fill material or for improved subgrades.
