DYNAMICAL TRANSITIONS TO CHAOTIC AND PERIODIC MOTIONS OF TWO SHUTTLE BUSES
This paper studies the dynamic behavior of 2 buses on a route where 2 buses shuttle between a starting point and a destination. A dynamic model for the 2 shuttle buses is given. When a bus catches another, the bus restarts after delay time T/sub min/. The distinct dynamic states (regular, periodic, and chaotic motions) are found by varying both loading parameter mu gamma and delay time T/sub min/. It is shown that dynamic transitions occur from the regular motion, through multiply periodic motions, to the chaotic motion, with increase of loading parameter mu gamma and delay time T/sub min/. The Lyapunov exponent and time-series plot are calculated for the chaotic motion.
