STRUCTURAL EQUATION MODELING. IN: TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS PLANNING. METHODS AND APPLICATIONS
Structural equation modeling (SEM) is an extremely flexible linear-in-parameters multivariate statistical modeling technique and has been used in transportation research since about 1980. The use of SEM is rapidly accelerating, partially due to the availability of improved software. This chapter gives a review of SEM and is intended to provide an introduction to the field for those not familiar with this technique. A compendium of SEM applications is also included for transportation researchers.
