DEEP WATER PIPE-LAY STRESSES
This paper presents a computer study for deep water pipe-lay stresses. A 12-in. (30-cm) O.D., 0.375-in. (10-mm) wall thickness; 26-in (66-cm) O.D., 0.344-in. (9-mm) wall thickness; and 36-in. (91-cm) O.D., 0.75-in. (19-mm) wall thickness lines are considered for water depths ranging from 100 ft (30 m) to 1000 ft (305 m). The mathematical computer model used in the study is based on the finite element method. The effects of tension and stinger geometry of pipe stresses are investigated. Also, a description of the computer model improvements is presented.
