IMPROVING RURAL MOBILITY: OPTIONS FOR DEVELOPING MOTORIZED AND NONMOTORIZED TRANSPORT IN RURAL AREAS
Adequate and affordable access to transportation infrastructure is not always available to many inhabitants of rural areas in developing countries. This in turn constrains economic and social development and contributes to poverty. The focus of this report is on improving rural mobility. It attempts to accomplish that by facilitating the provision of affordable access of transportation and transportation services. The concentration is on the many and varied types of transportation that provide mobility, such as bus service, freight trucks, bush taxis, transportation animals, bicycles, and handcarts.
