COMPUTER-AIDED METHOD OF OPTIMISATION OF POWER MACHINERY IN PRELIMINARY SHIP-DESIGN
The task of optimising a ship's main and auxiliary machinery installation in preliminary design is formulated as an integer programming problem, and a new method is presented for the economic optimisation of the machinery in the ship's two-level optimisation system. The Author (of the Ship Design and Research Centre, Gdansk) describes the method in some detail. The basic elements of the method are: a model for selecting the optimum machinery "structure", algorithms for local optimisation process; and an algorithm for co-ordinating the solution of the local machinery- optimisation task with that of the ship's overall economic optimisation task. These elements have been programmed for the ICL-4/70 computer. Some results of calculations carried out by this method are presented and discussed, and some practical possibilities for the use of the method by shipyards and owners are indicated. The method can be extended to other parts of the ship's outfit. parts of the ship's outfit.
