INTELLIGENT AGENTS AND ITS

This paper examines technical issues in the development of the Transportation Information Infrastructure (TII) and explores the relationship of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) to the general purpose of the National Information Infrastructure (NII). It introduces the concept of intelligent agents which are smart software systems that provide intelligent capabilities for the access, control and management of information. The author discusses how many technical issues of ITS, such as interoperability, electronic payment real-time control, decision making, and information access, can be addressed through the use of intelligent agents.
