VEHICLE ACTUATED SIGNAL CONTROLS FOR ISOLATED LOCATIONS
RIALAITHEOIRI COMHARTHAIOCHTA FEITHICL GHNIOMHAITHE D'AITEANNA SEOITE
This report is directed mainly at local authorities that are faced with the selection, design and maintenance of control equipment for traffic signals which react automatically to traffic requirements. Only equipment that is used for installations which work independently, that is those that are isolated, not linked or co-ordinated with other installations, is considered. Equipment manufactured by thirty-four international companies is reviewed. The findings of researchers in regard to the relative efficiencies and safety of different controllers and controller-detector combinations is examined. A number of deductions are made which outline weaknesses in certain controller-detector designs. /Author/
