ITALIAN JOB 25 YEARS ON : ANGELA SPENCE DESCRIBES 5T, TURIN'S AMBITIOUS PLAN TO REDUCE TRIP TIME AND ENERGY CONSUMPTION
This article describes the 5T (Telematics Technologies for Transport and Traffic) project, which has as its contractual objectives: a 25% reduction in overall trip time and an 18% reduction in energy consumption and pollution. 5T incorporates a total of nine Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) applications, which are coordinated by the Town Traffic and Transport Supervisor (TTTS). These subsystems are: urban traffic control, public transport management system, environmental control, route guidance rescue management, variable message signs (VMS), fare integration and debiting, parking control, and informative media information.
