SIMULATION AT THE MICROSCOPIC LEVEL
This article describes how advances in computing performance can enable microscopic simulation of entire traffic networks. It describes how the Paramics (Parallel Microscopic Simulation) software suite using scalable software and parallel processing, can provide insight into large-scale congestion by dividing a study network into a number of regions. Paramics is now being used to evaluate the effectiveness of the Controlled Motorway Pilot project on the London M25.
