THE APPLICATION OF OPEN SYSTEMS STANDARDS TO ITS
This paper describes the application of open systems standards to an Advanced Transportation Management System (ATMS) for the Caltrans District 7 (Los Angeles County). It discusses the need for an open system to replace the current system which lacks the flexibility to achieve operational objectives. An open system is defined as having the following attributes: vendor-neutral, portable/scalable interconnective, and interoperable.
