THE USE OF SMART CARD TECHNOLOGY FOR AUTOMATIC DEBITING AND ELECTRONIC PAYMENT OF TRANSPORT SERVICES
This paper focuses on the role that smart cards play in the ADEPT ( Automatic Debiting and Electronic Payment for Transport) project particularly in the congestion metering application. The use of smart cards in demand management and the concept of a congestion metering system are introduced. This is followed by a description of the systems' functional specifications at the context level. The system's architecture and its man-machine interface functions are then described. The paper concludes by describing the operation of the fully integrated system.
