A NON CONTACT STRAIN GAGE TORQUE SENSOR FOR AUTOMOTIVE SERVO DRIVEN STEERING SYSTEMS
This paper presents a low-cost method for tapping one or more torques on the steering column for the purpose of servo control. A non- contact strain gauge is used with a rotary transformer which surrounds the steering column concentrically and has two separate winding chambers. With this method, it is virtually impossible for air gap fluctuations and similar interferences to falsify the frequency-analog measuring signal.
