THE USE OF A RADIAL BASIS FUNCTION NETWORK FOR VISUAL AUTONOMOUS ROAD FOLLOWING

In this paper, an alternative connectionist architecture, called a Radial Basis Function (RBF) network, is considered for visual road- following. A controller based on each network architecture is built and the performances of the two network controllers are evaluated using a driving simulator. The RBF network was able to overcome many of the problems encountered by ALVINN (Autonomous Land Vehicle In a Neural Network).
