MECHANISTIC BEHAVIOR OF PAVEMENT SYSTEMS
This report which is based on the concept that pavement structures can be adequately represented by elastic layered systems, explains the multilayered elastic theory, presents details of 5 computer solutions to layered systems, and describes material characterization for elastic layer analysis. The chemical and physical characteristics of asphalt technology are covered, and management systems related to flexible pavement design are reviewed. Design Subsystems (elasticity, ultimate strength, and semi- empirical and statistical methods) using mechanistic analysis are outlined. A paper is also presented Pavement Response and Equivalencies for Various Truck Axle-Tire Configuration - which describes a limited state-of-the-art approach to answer several questions from a theoretical study based on hypothetical pavements and loads, but based on material characteristics and pavement behavior from previous research.
