EFFECT OF NOTCH ON DUCTILE FRACTURE
The present work is an attempt towards a proper understanding of the fracture mechanics of ductile materials. Experiments were carried out to find the notch ductility of four materials: stainless steel, brass, copper, (all annealed) and mild steel (normalized). The crack propagation takes place when the strain just ahead of the crack reaches a critical value.
