DRIVER INSTRUCTION

The report discusses the various types of driver instruction and the relationship between driver instruction and traffic safety. A section of the report is devoted to driver task analysis research as the theoretical basis for improving driver instruction objectives. An overview of existing research in the field of driver education is given and an attempt is made to convert task analysis research into practical training objectives. The content of driver training, teaching principles, methods and aids are discussed and testing methods related to examination and for controlling the effectiveness of training are reviewed. A summary of existing driver instruction systems is presented. Finally, practical recommendations are made regarding driver education and examination aimed particularly at those responsible for establishing driver education and examination programmes. The report concludes with suggestions for future research in the field. /TRRL/
