CHILD RESTRAINT SYSTEMS. MEASUREMENT OF OPENING FORCE REQUIREMENTS OF BUCKLES EXPOSED TO LOADS OF 60-200N
The purpose of this report was to solve the problems in connection with the measurement of the opening force requirements of buckles under varying load conditions. An apparatus was constructed where the pressure speed on the buckle was 20-40mm per minute. A circuit breaker eliminated the registration of the recoil effect and thus the apparatus only measured the real opening force. The results showed that the release force was strongly dependent upon the amount of load, and that it was possible to predict the increasing opening force requirements. With knowledge from previous studies of children's and adults' ability to open buckles, as well as the relationship between the release force of the buckle and load, opening force requirements for varying buckle opening force and for different weights of children are recommended. /TRRL/
