IS SPRAWL A MYTH?
Steven Hayward of the Pacific Research Institute recently testified before Congress in an attempt to debunk several myths about sprawl in America. The total amount of urbanized or built-up land is less than 5% of the total land area in the continental United States, and the rate of land being developed is approximately 0.07% per year. Some evidence suggests that the rate of sprawl is actually lower today than it was in the 1950s and 1960s.
